Decades of research on embedded systems brought more intelligent toasters, washing machines and manufacturing systems but it is now time to put the human being at the center of such a big bunch of technology. This presentation collects the various research activities of the Verona's group aiming to go in this direction. In the manufacturing context, we will show advancement from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 where humans work in a safer context. We will see how IoT is providing virtual coaching systems to promote well-being and health of people. We will discuss how compute continuum can enable new applications in remote healthcare, bioinformatics and systems biology.
